Launch of Global Stamford

On Thursday, we met with over 30 members of the Foreign Trade Commissioners Association to announce the Global Stamford Initiative the Irish Consulate in New York.

This initiative will focus on promoting the City of Stamford as a prime location for international businesses to re-locate as an alternative to New York City and other cities in the region.

One of Stamford’s greatest strengths is our diversity and international population. My team and I are eager to continue conversations with international partners in government and the business community to promote smart and innovative economic development in our City.

The Center for Housing Opportunity recently assessed the local affordable housing plans adopted in Fairfield County and published scorecards for each. Their review - conducted with Desegregate CT and Regional Plan Association - assessed each plan's potential to make our region more affordable for all. On average, towns scored 2.5 out of 5, and I am proud that the City of Stamford received the highest score of all municipalities in Fairfield County. In Fairfield County, more than one-third of households and more than half of renters spend more than 30% of their income on housing.

We must do more to address the housing affordability crisis and my administration is committed to ensuring we translate our affordable housing plan into meaningful action, creating a more equitable, inclusive, and vibrant City for all. Police Promotion Swearing In
On Wednesday I was honored to join Chief Shaw and members of the Stamford Police Department CT to swear in eleven officers who were recently promoted. Christopher Baker and Michael Noto were promoted to the rank of Captain; Richard Gasparino, Brendan Phillips, Jerry Junes, and Seth O’Brien were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant; and Damien Rosa, Norris Clark, Cory Caserta, Frank Laccona and John Derisme were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

These officers have served our City for many years and their dedication and commitment to their work, as well as to our community, is commendable and an example for us all. I know they will continue to serve our City with honor and bravery, as do all the hardworking men and women of the Stamford Police Department, who are one of the reasons our City remains one of the safest cities in New England.

International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance
In order to be an inclusive community, we must stand up to hate in all its forms. I recently met with leadership of AJC - American Jewish Committee, United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, and community and synagogue leaders from across Stamford to present a proclamation making Stamford the first city in Connecticut to sign an International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance - IHRA antisemitism declaration.

Thank you to Diane Heller Sloyer, David Gordon, Stephne Behrend, Susan Frieden, Jerry Silber, Susan Kostin, Joshua Hammerman, Scott Krowitz, and Rabbi Daniel Cohen for your leadership and advocacy in our community.

ICLEI World Secretariat Mayors Panel

I was honored to participate in a ICLEI World Secretariat Mayors Panel, alongside tri-state area Mayors, as part of New York City’s Climate Week. We shared updates on our City’s climate actions and priorities and how we as elected leaders can continue to foster inclusive dialogue on the climate emergency.

I am proud that the City of Stamford is already implementing the following climate actions:

Seeking to expand the amount of electric vehicle charging stations at government facilities and community spaces.

Launching our participation in the State of Connecticut’s Virtual Net Metering Program.

Secured grant funding from FEMA and will be utilizing it to launch a resiliency study to review the vulnerability of our City’s infrastructure

Launching a Greenhouse Gas Inventory for government and community buildings

My administration will continue to prioritize implementing policies that protects our environment, reduces our carbon footprint, and creates a more sustainable and resilient Stamford.

This is just one platform where I will be sharing updates on a weekly basis, but you can also connect with me and my administration on the platforms below:
