A participatory storytime for the whole family that includes songs, fingerplays, stories and movement activities. For ages 18 months to 5 years with an accompanying caregiver.

Color in 3D with Quiver

Tuesday, April 4 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Lower Level Makerspace

Use our iPads and the Quiver app to create an augmented reality coloring sheet that you can see in 3D. Ages 5 to 10; children ages 7 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required.

Outdoor Family Storytime

Thursday, April 6 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

Weed Memorial & Hollander Branch

Themed storytime that features songs, fingerplays and movement activities.

Ages 18 months to 4 years with an accompanying caregiver.

This program is held weather permitting; participants should bring blankets and/or lawn chairs.

Woman's Self-Defense Workshop

Saturday, April 1 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Main Library, DiMattia Building

Dudley N. Williams, Jr. Auditorium

Club Kung Fu of Stamford will lead a female-focused self-defense workshop using the traditional martial art of Wing Tsun focusing on three phases: setting boundaries and assessing the threat; learning the best way to strike using palms, elbows and knees; and defending against chokes, grabs and mounts. Registration required.

Harry Bennett Branch

In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his universe, and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions, including the original Peter Parker, to stop a threat to all realities. Refreshments will be served. Grades 5 to 12. Rated PG. Registration required.

Learn some book-making basics to create a brand new journal you can take home. Materials will be provided. Registration required.

Ferguson Library's Teen Art Contest 2023

Exploring the Upcoming Summer Learning Program: Find Your Voice

Contest requirements:

  • Open to Stamford students in grades 6 to 13.
  • Entries should be easily reproducible on 8.5x11 white paper and must be labeled in the back with your name, address, phone number, email, school and grade. Computer-generated images are also acceptable.
  • Entries are due by April 22.

The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Michaels, and the winning drawing will be displayed on all Summer Learning Club materials. Submit entries to the Youth Services Department at the Main Library, or mail to Steve Zampino, Ferguson Library, One Public Library Plaza, Stamford, CT, 06904.

Be Part of the Tiny Art Show

Beginning April 17, artists in grades 1 and above are invited to pick up a bag that contains everything needed to create two tiny 4x4 inch paintings. Bags will be available at every branch, while supplies last. Artwork is due April 29. Opening receptions will be celebrated Wednesdays, May 3 at the Weed Memorial & Hollander Branch and May 17 at Harry Bennett, both from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and May 10 at the Main Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Earn Volunteer Hours by Reviewing Books

The Ferguson Library is offering volunteer hours to teens in grades 6 to 12 to write book reviews. Reviews will be featured on the library's Youth Instagram page and displayed with reviewed books at the library.

Teens may submit up to two book reviews per week. For each review approved by a librarian, teens will receive one hour of volunteer credit.

Reviews may be edited for clarity and will list the reviewer's first name, last name initial, and grade, unless the reviewer specifies anonymity. Questions? Call 203-351-8242.
