The SJQ will play a variety of accessible jazz standards while providing interesting commentary about the artists and compositions, which patrons are sure to enjoy.

The quintet consists of 5 members: Deepak Cyril D’Souza, the leader on the alto and soprano saxophones; Mike Bimonte on the drums; Steve Roane playing the acoustic bass; Steve Wood on guitar; and Rich Meyers on the vibraphone.

"Jazz Masters: Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans - A Contrast in Styles"

Thelonious Monk (1917-1982) wrote over 60 compositions including "Round Midnight," "Ruby, My Dear," and "Well, You Needn't," which are staples of jazz repertoire. Monk was one of the great innovators in this genre with a unique and percussive piano style. Bill Evans (1929-1980) created his own jazz vocabulary with a lyrical and original approach to the piano, which can be heard in his compositions "Waltz for Debby" and "Turn out the Stars." Evans is also known for swinging renditions of well-known standards like "My Romance" and "My Foolish Heart." The Shoreline Jazz Quintet will play arrangements of the music of these two quintessential jazz musicians.
