More than an economist, Friedman was an innovative policy thinker and a major ideological figurehead whose vision—for reduced government, expanded markets, and the twinned forces of capitalism and freedom—circled the globe and reshaped American politics.

Monthly meetup for experienced and beginner knitters and crocheters. We will meet in the MakerLab and then get settled around the fireplace on the Mezzanine. Hooks, needles, and yarn will be available. This is a drop-in event, no registration needed. For adults and teens. Ages 10-12 welcome with an adult.

Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, is December 7 to 15 this year. Join members of our community to celebrate and learn about Chanukah with hands-on games and crafts, a special story walk, and tasty treats. This program is ideal for the whole family. Arrive anytime between 5 and 7 p.m., and stay however long you are able. Children under 6 years may need help from a grown-up to complete some projects. REGISTER

Social Justice Book Group (Hybrid) for Grades 5-8: Be the Change You Want to See

Our Social Justice Book Group is reading From the Desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks this month. Each month, leaders from LiveGirl, S.T.A.R., and New Canaan Library guide participants in thoughtful discussion and creative activities to explore the social issues these books address. The New England Academy of Dance (NEAD) brings the magic of The Nutcracker to New Canaan Library. NEAD presents an educational, family-friendly event that includes a reading and performance by the Sugar Plum Fairy. Additionally, Clara and the Snow Queen teach children in the audience a dance from the ballet. Ideal for children ages 5 - 10, but all are welcome.

Winter Break Puppet Show and Craft

Join us for some wintry fun and bring your grandparents, family, and friends for a break after the holidays! Special guest Chris Palmieri of Lucky Duck Puppets will charm us with the tale of Greg the Penguin as he tries to find his place in the world and help share holiday cheer. Afterwards enjoy a special story time with Ms. Marie, crafts, and a hot cocoa station! Proceeds from this event benefit Family Services and the Rees Family Children’s Library. RESERVE TICKETS
