Create Book Art

Submissions accepted from January 15th-31st

We would like your book/reading themed art for a community exhibition at the library! Creations can be about books or made of books and the artworks should be ready for presentation (i.e. framed etc.) Open to all members of the community. Contact Julia at scovlibn@biblio.org for REGISTRATION and guidelines. Exhibit will be in February.

Reading Buddies

Designed to help younger children practice reading, Reading Buddies is a program that pairs emerging readers with another, older "kid." The idea and hope is that connecting with another, older "kid," is a treat in itself, and that reading aloud to a "kid" is low-pressure. At the same time, the student volunteer (age 12-18) serves as a reading mentor, demonstrating how to stay calm while reading and how to conquer reading difficulties. The buddy will ask questions about the text and have a basic understanding of assessing and helping with reading comprehension. For more information and to register click here.

Virtual Tutoring

School age students

Could you benefit from extra help with certain subjects at school? SML in collaboration with The Hotchkiss School is offering a tutoring program that pairs older and younger students according to their strengths and needs. Tutoring sessions will be facilitated via Zoom. Register here.

Extra Fab Take Your Child to the Library Day

Saturday, February 4th, 10am-4pm. All ages welcome.

This year, Take Your Child to the Library Day coincides with one of Salisbury’s biggest events of the year, The Salisbury Winter Sports Association Jumpfest! HVRHS' artgarage is also on-hand providing a community art exercise in global kindness!

On your way to or in between jumps, stop by the library with your family to enjoy an exhibition of Roy Sherwood (Salisbury’s own Olympic jumper) memorabilia and s’mores around the outdoor fire pits and some fun activities for kids inside to shake out the chills! See you at the slopes and at the library!

Bookbinding for Families with Lilly Rand Barnett

Saturday, February 11th from 2:00-3:15pm, Ages 7+

In this afternoon class for young artists age 7 and up, Barnett will teach kids a way to make a "no-binding-necessary" book. Feel free to bring special papers or other materials that you'd like to work with or choose from Barnett's own assortment.

Limited to 15 children (along with a parent or guardian focused on the binding project at hand). Registration required.

Join us and Housy's artgarage in a campaign to make art not war with their "Ukraine Art Envelope Project" raising money to help the cause.
