PUBLIC NOTICE

All residents and non-residents, owning tangible personal property and subject to property tax in the town of Barkhamsted on October 1, 2022, must file their list of personal property with the Barkhamsted Assessor on or before November 1, 2022.  List need not include real estate or registered vehicles in accordance with Section 12-41 of the Connecticut General Statutes, but must include the following:

RESIDENTS OR BUSINESSES:
Non-registered and out-of-state registered motor vehicles, trailers, campers and snowmobiles per CGS Sec 12-71.

BUSINESSES ONLY:

-Manufacturing machinery and equipment

-Furniture, fixtures and equipment

-Electronic data processing (includes computers) and peripheral equipment

-Farm machinery and tools

-Mechanics tools

-Leasehold improvements

-Expensed supplies

-Leased equipment

-All other tangible personal property 

All individuals owning and operating a business in the town of Barkhamsted including businesses that are being operated from home are required by law to file their list of personal property with the Assessor.

Leased or borrowed:

Items will be assessed to the Property Owner where these items are sited, unless the property owner or tenant declares such items as leased or borrowed, and properly identifies the owner of such item(s).  

HOW TO FILE:

If you are required to file and have not received a declaration by October 10th and/or need additional information, please contact the Assessor’s Office. You may also download forms from the town website, https://www.barkhamsted.us/entities/assessor-department

Please do not disregard this notice: a 25% penalty will be assessed for failing to file a Declaration with the Assessor’s Office by November 1, 2022.  Declarations received with postmarks after November 1, are ONLY accepted as being filed on time if they are postmarked or canceled by the U.S. Postal Service or sent with USPS tracking information.
