The Town Manager's Proposed FY 2023-2024 Budget was presented to the Boards of Selectmen and Finance at the March 2, 2023 meeting.

Hebron Health and Safety

We have worked 9 days without a work-related injury or accident.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department began the week with a winter storm Monday night and plowing operations continued into the next day. Worn plow blade cutting edges were changed as needed.  Guard posts were replaced where damaged, and litter was picked up throughout town.  Maple Fest signage was installed in the center of Town. Trucks were washed and cleaned to remove salt residue, and the crew is preparing for a forecasted winter storm Friday night into Saturday morning. Truck maintenance continues to be conducted as needed to keep the fleet ready for winter operations.


FIRE DEPARTMENT

This week the Hebron Fire Department responded to 11 EMS, 2 MVA’s, 2 tree/wires down, 2 service calls, 2 fires, and 1 fire alarm.

CONSERVATION AND INLAND WETLANDS

-Discussed a proposed easement violation settlement with the Town Attorney

-Effected routine sediment and erosion control adherence checks relative to previously issued permit conditions of approval

-Made 2 regulatory compliance jurisdictional determinations with corresponding site visits

-Inspected environmental protection measures at sewer system upgrade sites

-Counseled a property owner on wetlands code requirements and afforded direction on the proposed development of her parcel

-Consulted with a resident regarding intent to work within an easement area and provided guidance with permission protocols

-Participated in environmental sciences continuing education

-Conducted periodic inspections and patrols relative to wetlands violations, ATV usage on Town lands and illegal dumping

-Wrote and edited two resource protection articles for outreach distribution at the Hebron Maple Fest

-Provided administrative and logistical support to the Conservation and Inland Wetlands Commission

PARKS AND RECREATION 

Preseason Baseball Clinic - We are offering a preseason clinic for current 5th-8th graders, March 14 &15 at the RHAM High School Gym from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Cost $30.00. Clinic will be run by RHAM Varsity Baseball coach Bill Eller.
 
Paint Party – Join Miss Amy from Studio 13 for a paint party extravaganza! This class will be four weeks of painting fun. Each week we will paint a new and creative piece to bring home and display! Who wants to join the paining fun? Grades 1 – 6. April 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Class will be held in the Community Room at the Douglas Library. Cost $87.00.
 
Summer Adventure Camp - Join us for an awesome summer full of sports, games, nature, arts & crafts, field trips, theme days, friends and more. 8 weeks, June 26-August 18th. 6:45 a.m.-5 p.m. Registration begins Monday, April 3, 8am. Must register in advance.  
 
Easter Eggstravaganza! – We will be hosting our annual Easter Egg Hunt again this year. There will be pictures with the Easter bunny, music, a bounce house and arts and crafts. Event is free and open to the public for ages 10 and under.  The event will be held at the pavilion at Burnt Hill Park. Saturday, April 8th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
 
Home Alone Safety - Home Alone Safety for Kids is a unique class for boys and girls ages 8-13, who will be staying home alone. This interactive course will cover safety concerns parents have when their children are left by themselves and how to deal with them. Each student will receive a workbook that covers house key safety, outdoor and indoor and safety (including kitchen), gun safety, fire safety, gas leaks, first aid kit essentials, phone and internet safety. Monday, May 15th from 5-6:30 p.m. Gilead Hill School, PREP Room. Cost $45.
 
Hebron Day and Farmers and Artisans Market - We are currently accepting vendor applications for our Farmers and Artisans Market.  The market will be held the first Saturday of each month from June – October, at Hebron Elementary School. Karate - Instructional karate focusing on building confidence, self-respect, and discipline following the style of Goju ru, made famous by the “Karate Kid” film series. Six-week ongoing sessions, Mondays, and Wednesdays in the Gilead Hill Activity Room.  Ages 5-11 5:00 p.m-5:50 p.m.  Ages 12+ 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.  Cost $85 per session.

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking applicants for our PREP Before and After School program that runs throughout the school year.  Morning and afternoon hours are available Monday-Friday.  PREP staff plan and implement games and activities, serve snacks, and interact with children grades pre-k through 6th, while acting as positive role models and providing guidance and leadership.  Visit our website or call 860-530-1281 for more information.     
 
The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking applicants for Summer Camp Program Leaders and Program Specialists. The Town of Hebron is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Program Leaders and Program Specialists for the Summer Adventure Camp program.  Applicants must be 16 years of age or older, and available for the duration of training and camp operations from June through August based on the needs of camp program. 

Anticipated flex work schedule of Monday through Friday, between the regular camp hours of 6:45 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., with the possibility of additional hours based on departmental needs.  Rate is $15.50- $17.00 an hour.

NEWS/COMMUNITY EVENTS:

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Polish Dinner
 
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will hold its first monthly community dinner of the year on Saturday, March 11th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. or until sold out. If the food is ready and the parking lots are filling, we may start early. The menu will include homemade pierogies cooked with onions and bacon, kielbasa and sauerkraut, cabbage rolls, sweet and sour cabbage, pickled beets, rye bread and your choice of desserts.   The cost is $15.00.
 
This is a take-out only dinner, no pre-orders or reservations, but first come, first served.  Servers will come to your car, take your order, and payment, and bring your meal(s) back to your back seat or trunk. No need to get out of your car.
