Art Exhibit: Sky
Original Work by Ewers Family of Stratford on Display through October
A family art project, “Sky”, will be the September/October 2019 art exhibit at the Stratford Library, 2203 Main Street in Stratford. It is the first appearance of original artwork from the Asante Ewers family of Stratford. It is free and open to the public.
Asante and Sheniqua Ewers met at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, New York. Asante is an illustrator and Sheniqua is a graphic artist. One day their eyes locked in the computer lab and they smiled at each other in passing. One of their friends noticed the spark and decided to do something about it. Little did they know that, that friend’s one action of exchanging their numbers to each other would create a relationship that has lasted 20 years and produced another creative person in the process. Their daughter Zuri Ewers is a photographer at the age of 12.
Each blessed with their own unique gift the Ewers decided to create a family business. AZS Art Studio displays each discipline of this African American family in their own unique way. Asante’s illustrations have a technique natural flow as he works with his signature medium, watercolor. Each depiction shows his versatility to adapt to different subjects from portraits that look like they could talk to you or the landscapes that visually move. Sheniqua’s graphic projects don’t necessarily embody her style, but her subject. The subject is more important than the graphic artist. She strives to bring to life her client’s view in their brain and share it with the world. Zuri had an eye for photography early as a small child. At the age of 12 now she likes to be behind the scenes taking unrehearsed shots of natural settings, images and in action poses. Her photography has a mark all her own. A modern family with these combined gifts promises a striking exhibit for the Stratford Library.
On display through October 31, 2019. Free and open to the public.
